AN EMOTION-FOCUSED APPROACH TO FOSTERING EMOTIONAL AND SEXUAL INTIMACY IN COUPLES
Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) is an empirically based humanistic-experiential treatment that views emotions as central to human functioning and psychotherapeutic change. It is supported by a considerable body of research demonstrating its effectiveness in addressing depression, anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, interpersonal problems and couple conflict.
Emotion-Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT-C) is an evidence-based approach to working with couples that integrates an intrapsychic focus on each partner’s emotional experience with a systemic view of the couple’s pattern and process of interaction. It enables the resolution of conflict through transforming negative cycles, facilitates the healing of emotional injuries, promotes emotional intimacy between partners, and provides the foundation for satisfying sexual intimacy and healthy functioning.
Dr Nia Pryde will present a development of the Emotion-Focused Therapy paradigm for promoting emotional and sexual intimacy in couples.
