EMDR Therapy: How it Can Treat Traumatic Stress and Instill Internal Resources

Event Closed

More Details

Since its development by Dr. Francine Shapiro in the 1980’s, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy has evolved into a powerful therapy modality for the treatment of trauma, stress, and anxiety. Renown trauma expert Dr. Bessel van der Kolk says that EMDR "focuses not only on regulating the intense memories activated by trauma but also on restoring a sense of agency, engagement, and commitment through ownership of body and mind." It has also been described, however, by some as a mysterious, alternative therapy. This presentation will introduce EMDR Therapy, what it is, its effectiveness, and how one can pursue more information and training. Dr. Wollin will also integrate case material on how EMDR Therapy can be incorporated as a standalone or adjunct therapy.
