Hong Kong Young People's Chorus
Hong Kong Young People’s Chorus (HKYPC), a local non-profit-making organisation, was founded in 2005, with members consist of choral enthusiasts from both local and international choral scene; some members come from prominent participating schools in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, and achieved considerable attainments in vocal or instrumental music. The Chorus’ repertoire spans from sacred to popular music, from classical to contemporary genres, striving to expose everyone to music of different styles and languages. To date, HKYPC has offered Bach’s St. John Passion and Magnificat in D, BWV 243, Mozart’s Vesperae Solennes de Confessore, Vaughan Williams’ Three Shakespeare Songs, Durufle’s Requiem, Rutter’s Requiem (chamber version), Ward Swingle’s Music History 101, Ticheli’s Constellation, as well as premiering pieces by budding local and contemporary composers.
Apart from our regular and charity concerts, HKYPC has also appeared as the core chorus in Hong Kong Youth Wind Philharmonia’s rendition of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana (Hong Kong Premiere) in 2008; as part of the core chorus in RTHK’s production of Christmas Concert in the Park in 2009, and as the demonstration choir in the LCSD Music Appreciation Concert Series. HKYPC has also done a recording session for RTHK Radio 4’s programme Music of Friends. In July 2011, HKYPC was awarded the Gold Award in the Hong Kong International Youth and Children’s Choir Festival 2011. In April 2012, HKYPC was one of the performing choirs singing Fauré’s Requiem with Hong Kong Sinfonietta under the baton of Yip Wing-sie, for Le French May Arts Festival & Hong Kong Sinfonietta Season opening concert; and in August, as one of the choruses singing in the Hong Kong Singfest Festival Finale Concert, conducted by Helmuth Rilling. Later in January 2016, HKYPC performed at the Hong Kong Arts Festival in a PLUS event titled Chinese Church Music Encounter 1.
