The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong has invited Grammy Nominated British Singer Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist sensation Lianne La Havas to perform a special selection of her best loved tracks plus new and original songs at MO Bar this 18 September.
The 27-year old, who won the iTunes album of the year for her debut 2012 ‘Is Your Love Big Enough’ and nominations for the Mercury Music Prize and two Mobos, hails from London. The talented musician recently received nominations for a Grammy Award for Best Urban Contemporary Album (2016); NAACP Image Award for Outstanding New Artist (2013); World Music Award for World’s Best Album (2014); and was nominated as best British Female Solo Artist at this year’s Brit Awards.
The London-born artist’s intoxicating sound draws influences from rock to drum and bass to bossa nova, soul and jazz – with a hint of acoustic and electric guitars.
Renowned for her signature captivating live performances, La Havas’ finely curated programme further establishes MO Bar as a key cultural destination in Hong Kong with a reputation for distinctive musical events.
Born Lianne Barnes to a Greek father and a Jamaican mother, music has always played a key role in the inventive songbird’s life. By the time she was eleven, La Havas was writing her own songs and her first break in professional music came as a backing vocalist to the singer Paloma Faith. By 2010, she had her own development deal with Warner Bros. Records.
Since her debut album’s critical and commercial success, La Havas has worked with a star-studded list of musicians, from alt-J to Prince, and as main support for Coldplay’s ‘A Head Full of Dreams’ World Tour, and led sold-out tours worldwide. Her second album ‘Blood’ is an elegant collection of pop songs featuring rhythms inspired by her recent trip to the Caribbean, the perfect foil for her soulful voice.
The singer-songwriter follows other world-class talents including Alicia Keys, Annie Lennox, John Legend, and Judith Hill other international stars in performing at the MO Bar UNPLUGGED Concert series.
The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong is also proud to have invited the super cool Samuel J for the unplugged concert opening act. Cornish born Samuel J is an innovative singer-songwriter, healer and conservationist. His unique music and soulful performances have helped him establish a strong reputation with an ever-growing global fan base.
