PUSH presents Peggy Gou (Ninja Tune/Phonica, Berlin)

More Details

To say the past few years have been busy for Peggy Gou would be an understatement in a scene loaded with overstatements. Prolific in the studio and behind the decks, the Korean-born, Berlin-based DJ/producer has enjoyed a stratospheric rise in the world of dance music since she emerged in 2016.

Peggy has already glimpsed any number of potential destinies: designer, model, pianist, writer, editor and stylist. However, as time passes and trends fade, a constant, electronic pulse has proved irresistible to the DJ andproducersincechildhood.

A combination of playful curiosity and open musical experimentation - not to forget her signature, MPC-led rhythm - have been huge factors in Peggy’s success. Her sound has found a home on labels such as Radio Slave’s Rekids imprint, Ninja Tune and the legendary Phonica White series of twelve-inch singles - releases which led to personal invitations to play alongside respected and knowledgeable tastemakers such as Jackmaster and The Black Madonna.

Peggy’s sets at venues such as Panorama Bar and Sub Club, and at festivals including Les Nuits Sonores and Dekmantel and Sunfall, reveal her open ended musical philosophy, which can veer seamlessly and creatively between pumping techno, playful house and more abstract compositions.

She draws on influences as diverse as J Dilla, the Yellow Magic
Orchestra and DJ Sotofett, energised by dance music’s rich and diverse history, while herself staking a personal claim with refreshing curiosity and undeniable style.

Now promoters PUSH are finally able to bring Peggy to Hong Kong for her local debut at Afterdarkandbeyond, where she’ll be supported by PUSH resident Frankie Lam and special guests.
