Providing diversity friendly therapy to LGBTIQ clients
Most training in counselling or psychology courses rarely offers adequate instruction around gender and sexual diversity issues. In many instances training is one lecture, and rarely exceeds three hours of teaching. Yet therapists are required to provide effective therapy to an ever widening range of gender and sexually diverse clients and many struggle to even keep tabs on today’s acronyms - LGBTIQ. Today’s presentation will address some of the issues that therapists need to be mindful of in providing effective therapy to LGBTIQ clients and highlight ones unique to this population. It aims to be a practical and instructive talk for therapists who want to get some more in-depth training in LGBTI friendly therapy and issues.
