What better way to spend an August night than listening to summery tunes while enjoying an ice-cold beverage? For the first time, The Underground brings you Summer Serenade, a summer showcase featuring four bands who go perfectly with an nice cold drink on a warm night. First up is Summer Romance, an indie folk band whose simple melodies and sometimes tongue-in-cheek lyrics telling stories about life, love and Hong Kong will leave you feeling strangely bittersweet. Tri-deuces, up next, is one of the few jazz bands in the Hong Kong indie scene. They promise to make you groove with the soul, and groove you will to their jazz-funk tunes featuring vocalist Sonia’s spellbindingly soulful voice. “Hong Kong by nature but not by style” and “fresh and juicy like a fruit” Fantastic Day were formed at a Primal Scream concert in 2000, and they will be rocking the stage with their jangling indie pop which fills you with nostalgia for the 90s British music scene. Wrapping up the night is Fad, who’ve just released their new album. Another band with British influences perceptible in many elements of their music – from the guitar riffs to the synths to the distinctive vocals – they’re sure to turn the venue into a dance floor for the night. Take a break from the sweltering heat, and join us at Backstage on 9th August for an unforgettable night.
